All of your high scores as well as your custom settings are stored in your "Spectre Settings" file which is located in your system folder. If you wish to retain your high scores, duplicate the Spectre Settings file and place the copy in some other folder.
Using a any sort of sector editor open the Spectre Settings file you wish to alter and find line #00180. At the begining of the line there will be three numbers in hexidecimal that correspond to your speed, shields, and ammo (in that order). You will need a desk accessory calculator that converts decimal to hex. (I used Hex Calculator which is available on-line.) Choose the settings you would like. Note: any setting above 10 for shields just gives you shield strength 10. Also, it is not possible to have more than a setting of 99 for anything. Convert the numbers to hex. Then enter the hex numbers into that line in the proper order (speed, shields, ammo). Select "Write Sector" from your Sector Editor program. This writes the altered sector back to the file. Now you're ready for level #50.
I used FileEdit from MacTools (although I don't recommend MacTools; Norton Utilities blows it away). Also, please respect Velocity's attempt to deliever high quality games at a fair price. The price for Spectre is very fair.
